At Home Project Ideas: Table Settings
Looking for another home project? This one just might be my favorite!
For many homes, one of the first things you see when you walk in the door is the dining room. Your dining room table setting plays an important part in setting the tone and style for your home. Properly decorating this space not only adds some personality to your house, but also makes it feel more inviting. Plus, if you love decorating like I do, you’ll have so much fun with this project!
Below are a few practical tips that will help inspire your next table setting design:
Don’t be afraid to mix and match
If you already own a set of dinnerware, you do not have to go buy a new one to make this project work (unless you want to)! If you have solid dinnerware, don’t be afraid to add some prints and color by layering a fun, colorful salad plate on top of a dinner plate or vise versa. Choose a set of napkins or a table runner that help draw in a certain color to match the plates. I love the idea of getting 3 or 4 different patterned plates of coordinating colors then tying it all together with a solid colored napkin.
You can also mix and match dinnerware and glassware. For example, if you have white dinnerware, get some colored glassware, such as pink or green to tie in your color theme.
It’s all about texture
Texture creates a setting that is interesting and comfortable. If you’re looking to “warm up” a bland table full of ceramic and glass, add pops of wood and greenery! It makes all the difference. Woven placemats, wooden napkin rings or centerpieces, and greenery sprigs are just a few ways to soften up the room. Adding pops of metallic, such as gold/silver candlesticks, flatware, and vases also creates visual interest and adds texture.
Color sets the mood
Are you going for a mid-century modern vibe, farmhouse look, bohemian chic, or more classic? The colors you choose will help set the mood and style you are looking to portray. Layer solids and neutrals for a more classic design or go bold with pops of bright color and patterns for an eclectic look.
