What To NEVER Have In Your Closet!!

I had a friend text me the other day with a blog idea, and she said I would love for you to write about what I should not have in my closet. After I thought through it I agreed, what a great thing to blog about! So many of us have closets that are full, full of things we never wear and don’t need! I suggest that before you run and buy more out of sheer panic you remove some things first.

1. Maternity clothes...when you are no longer pregnant

Now I am not talking about right after birth, it takes the body awhile to be ready for those skinny jeans again. I am talking about, you had your last child 4 years ago and those maternity leggings are your most comfortable pair of pants! No, just no! I promise you there are other pants out there that will be so much more flattering, and just as comfortable.

2. Shoes that will never..ever fit

Shoes are the icing on the cake. I mean they just complete the outfit! They also can tend to be the one thing you pick up in the store because you got overwhelmed and well, who doesn't like shoes!? The problem is that all the shoes taking up space in your closet need to be wearable. That doesn't mean you wear that pair of black stilettos everyday, but it means that they do in fact fit and you can walk without looking like you're going to break your ankle! Make sure your shoes fit ladies, otherwise its confusing in that closet!

3. Your soft favorite shirt…with all the tiny holes in the front

I know that it feels amazing on but yes it is obvious that your top has holes. I try and avoid that cozy thin knit because it tends to wear easily from kitchen counter tops, seat belts, and the button on your jeans. Don't cling to damaged clothes, you won’t feel your best in them even if they are comfortable.

4. Clothes that must be altered…but haven't

I want you to temporarily remove these items and put them in the front seat on your car! Pants that are too long, too big in the waist, straps on tops that need to be taken up, all of it! You will appreciate the money you spend to fix them when you can actually wear them!

5. Bras from, well … you don't remember when the last time was that you bought a new bra!

In order to insure a great fit on your clothes, your bras need to have a great fit as well! As women our bodies are constantly changing. From pregnancy, after pregnancy, weight gain, weight loss our breasts go through so much change. I want you to toss your bras from who knows when, march yourself straight to Nordstrom, and have yourself measured and properly fitted in a fresh new bra! And please, leave with two.

I am in a lot of closets on a weekly basis and I know for a fact we hold on to more than we should. Closets are personal and it can be difficult to discard items that hold more emotional value than we even realize. Start here and turn the music up, laugh at the things that you know need to leave and you are on your way!
