Marfa, Texas - a laid back dream

My hubs had a work trip this summer and I half heartedly agreed to join, along with our two children. Now, I love to travel...LOVE. However; I was not thrilled about the 9 hour drive and had no idea what to expect when we arrived in Marfa. Let me tell you it did not disappoint!

As we got closer to the town the view out my window was breath taking! At just 2 hours away from Big Bend National Park, Marfa boasts actual mountains and lush rolling green fields of grass. I am a Texas girl born and raised and I was embarrassed that I had NO idea how beautiful and breathtaking parts of West Texas can be!

Where to stay: Hotel Saint George

This hotel was literally in all forms perfect! The trendy hot spot just opened in March and did not disappoint! The staff was always friendly and eager to help. The rooms were modern and a nice size, and my favorite part... super clean! I could walk to the bar at any moment and have a hot cappuccino or sparkling water with lime, or order tasty snacks from the bar menu. There is the most unique bookstore, also found in the hotel, that provides just about anything you can think that is current and also historical books that fill you in on Texas history.

What to do:

Visit the McDonald observatory

See the Marfa lights

Take a day trip to Alpine, Texas

Swim at the Balmorhea State Park in the natural springs

Drive outside of town to take pics at Prada, Marfa

See the Chinati foundation

Places to eat:

Pizza foundation- yummiest pizzas

THE GET GO - fun organic grocery store

Do your thing - delicious coffee

Marfa Saint George - best almond croissant ever

So with my legs dragging behind me we drove to Marfa, and I loved it! It was a modern mixture of small town Texas with an entire artistic and international community mixed right in. I was more relaxed than I have been in since I can remember! Make sure and take your camera because the photo ops are endless in this quiet and intriguing town!

Happy Travels!
